Kimmel should care what the station that broadcast to mainly 99 percent conservative 250 station just dropped him . if what these 250 station run get massive advertising.hes finish.
Although I normally love you're writing, I completely disagree with your initial 'hot' take on Kimmel's alleged 'thought crime' (yes, my words, not yours). Sadly, I must also say your comments seem to parrot the vast majority of mass opinion left and right. I might also say the "Well, why don't they just start their OWN newspaper?" kind of comments typified below do nothing, (imo), to constructively advance the conversation.
You say "ill-timed". Huh? Maybe he should have waited a few weeks? As a professional does that make any sense to you? Insensitive? In poor taste? I've watched the clip many times - as I'm sure you have as well - and, although it is 'phrased' in a jokey manner (he is after all a comedian entertaining folks who have paid to show up to hear comedy) it is mainly framed as an opinion. Even if that opinion was based on seemingly incorrect information, he was stating an opinion that is entirely consistent with everything else I've heard him say. It wasn't even really a statement about Charlie Kirk or his platform, but more a comment on the hypocrisy of the MAGA-faithful. I'm soooooo sick of reading pontificating editorials on this (mostly from the left, no less) that invariably start with "He was wrong and kind of a jerk BUT..." that only comes off as apologist clap-trap to these old ears.
Kimmel, just as everyone else in America, has the right of free speech. It is one of many recognized (along with many other unmentioned) natural rights that have existed long before our Founding documents.
What Kimmel does not have a right to is a late night TV show owned and financed by a separate private corporation. Kimmel works at the pleasure of his corporate bosses and shareholders.
Otherwise, he can create his own corporate entity and go into business for himself, or he can stand on his own bought soapbox and rant his pathetic jokes and lame and untrue political diatribes all he wants in a public square somewhere … preferably not in my neighborhood.
Great podcast, Elise and Danielle! I think Kimmel has a great courage during this tyranny standing up to Trump and his bullies sycophants. I cancelled my subscription to Disney + and my 10 yr old son has approved even though he’s watching Star Wars episodes there.
Kimmel wasn’t fired because of the Trump admin. He was fired by Disney, because TV station owners wanted him off their airwaves due to viewer complaints.
Long ago I read an interesting dictum, "Words can only be cancelled with other words.". I agree with your characterization of Kimmel's comments, and think he should, in line with the above, apologize, as the network has suggested. All parties would benefit. A drawn out fight about "how many dollars," however, would not.

Fascist magots are the absolute dirtiest type of white-supremacist in the USA. And they're mindlessly obedient pedo enablers too.

G’day. 🤨
