What a desperate situation Ms. Labott, and all together caused by Hamas and their supporters. Do you think that the population of Gaza has stopped supporting Hamas? Reporting on the suffering in Gaza is important but must always be prefaced with who and what is responsible for it. Egypt, Jordan and the other Arab countries can stop the suffering by taking in the Gazans suffering. It says a lot that they do not.

Ms. Bella Center is right that criticism must be focused on Hamas and the countries helping them. Thanks. Take care.

Your final paragraph,

“They need sustained pressure on Israel to lift the aid restrictions, efforts to end the war and programs to help the Palestinians develop legitimate governance – not gestures that make European leaders feel better about themselves while accomplishing zero for the people they claim to support,” completely leaves out the pressure that needs to be exerted upon Hamas and it’s supporters, who are represented by you as having no agency in the continuing disaster that is this war.

It’s a fair point and I certainly didn't mean to suggest that. Hamas, in started the war and bears ultimate responsibility.

I meant specifically that Hamas is incentivized, by the universal condemnation of Israel, to continue the war and reject ceasefire offers. More pressure needs to be exerted upon them so that they see this as a real disaster for their people as opposed to the great propaganda win which, sadly, it is.

It’s a leftist perspective to assume that with the right help, these people can self-govern. Help from socialist leadership is especially not going to be effective, and is part of the corruption.

This article makes Hamas’ electorate seem like morally innocent refugees, rather than accomplices to international terror.

Flowers used to be Gaza’s major export. Now? It’s terrorism and propaganda.

They are an international welfare caseload.

I don’t disagree that the Palestinians have suffered from corrupt leadership for decades, but honestly…what electorate? The last election was in 2006. That’s the definition of corruption.

The people of Gaza are definitely in a precarious situation, and I think the main battleground here is the difference between the perspective that they are culpable Hamas-loyalists versus they are interred victims of war. The difference between providing the people of Gaza with humanitarian and moral support versus aiding and abetting Hamas has been blurred, and so has the wartime objective of eliminating Hamas versus conquering the land, become enmeshed.
