Important topics, and so often one must decide what is the lesser of two evils.

* As for tariffs, opponents rely on cost analysis, rather than cost-benefit analysis. For example, models of externalities allow taxes such as tariffs to resolve negative externalities, and transfers such as removing tariffs for foreign capital investment in the US to reward positive externalities. The US was the wealthier country, so open border trading benefits the poorer countries because companies outsource their supply chains to the poorer countries to cut costs. However, displaced workers struggle with unemployment and under-employment for long periods, lasting several years. To afford the somewhat cheaper goods and services that result from the outsourcing, the American displaced workers often rely on government subsidies for the necessities of life. Trump has induced so much capital investment that hundreds of thousands of new jobs are to be created in the next few years, and these people will be paying taxes, to include Social Security taxes, rather than living off of taxes or the transfers from government accruing more debt.

* Matt Taibbi has a great post on his Substack about the Ukrainian war, as he analyzes the NY Times story where government officials try to whitewash their involvement in the lie that is Zelensky's version of the war.

* Neither Israel or Palestine want a two-state solution. Israel won.

* Israel's ultra-orthodox Jews analyze ancient texts for clues how big an area that Israel must control for the Messiah to appear (remember, Jews reject Jesus as the Messiah).

* Reports are that the region necessary--according to the zealots--includes much or most of what is present-day Iran. However, the Israeli men want no part of any more bloodshed, so PM Netanyahu had to manipulate Trump in the hope that American (Christian) military will put boots on the ground and die fighting against the Iranians, while the Israelis are, for the most part, removed from the conflict.

* Netanyahu sold Trump on this nonsense, when in reality the Iranians are under the control of a religious dictator that rewards his personal guards and select citizens with oil money, but denies the benefits to most of the Iranian population. Instead, he sends oil money to any one who agrees to conflict, to include terrorism against civilians, in his quest to reign over Jews, and over any Christians in his sphere of influence.

I heard that Congress voted to end Trump’s tariffs on Canada on NPR. Is that true?
